A Safe Place When Dogs Need It Most

While Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a permanent home for rescued cats, we also recognize that dogs in our community sometimes need immediate, short-term care.

The future Canine Care Center is being designed to provide a safe, secure, and compassionate environment for dogs requiring temporary housing, medical observation, quarantine, or recovery before returning home, transferring to a rescue partner, or continuing their journey toward adoption.

Every space within the building has been carefully planned to protect the health of each dog while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and biosecurity.

Designed for Safety, Built for Compassion

The Canine Care Center is much more than a kennel.

It is a specialized facility designed to safely care for dogs arriving under a variety of circumstances while minimizing stress and preventing the spread of disease.

From intake through recovery, every step follows a carefully planned process that protects both the dogs in our care and the people caring for them.

Planned Facility Features

🐾 Intake & Admission

Every dog entering the Canine Care Center will receive an initial assessment, identification, and care plan before being admitted into the appropriate housing area.

🩺 Examination Room

A dedicated examination room allows dogs to receive physical evaluations, basic medical care, vaccinations when needed, and ongoing health monitoring in a quiet, controlled environment.

🚨 Quarantine Room

Dogs with an unknown medical history or recent intake will be housed in a dedicated quarantine area while they undergo observation and routine health evaluations before moving into general housing.

🛡️ Isolation Room

A separate isolation room provides a secure environment for dogs requiring additional medical observation or treatment while preventing unnecessary exposure to other animals.

🧼 Biosecurity Room

The Canine Care Center includes a dedicated biosecurity room equipped with sanitation and personal protective equipment to help reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Controlled access, disinfectant foot baths, hand-washing stations, protective clothing, and strict cleaning protocols help maintain a safe environment for every dog in our care.

🐶 Individual Care Suites

Each dog will have access to an individual indoor suite with a connected outdoor run, allowing for exercise, fresh air, and reduced stress while maintaining safe separation when necessary.

🌿 Secure Exercise Yard

Dogs will have access to a secure outdoor exercise and potty area designed to encourage daily activity while maintaining controlled movement throughout the facility.

🏠 Canine Transition Room

Once dogs have completed quarantine or medical observation, they can move into the Canine Transition Room while awaiting adoption, transfer to rescue partners, reclaim by their owners, or the next step in their journey.

Thoughtfully Designed

Every aspect of the Canine Care Center has been planned with both animal welfare and operational efficiency in mind.

Features include:

  • Climate-controlled indoor housing
  • Indoor/outdoor care suites
  • Sound-reducing construction
  • Floor drains for sanitation
  • Dedicated ventilation
  • Secure camera monitoring
  • Controlled biosecurity access
  • Separate quarantine and isolation areas
  • Easy-to-clean finishes throughout

Canine Biosecurity Unit

The kennel will include a completely separate biosecurity area for dogs requiring medical observation or isolation before entering the general kennel population.

Dedicated housing, sanitation procedures, and controlled access will help protect every animal while providing individualized care in a safe, low-stress environment.

Why Biosecurity Matters

One sick animal can unintentionally expose dozens of healthy residents to illness.

A carefully planned biosecurity program helps protect every dog by ensuring new arrivals receive appropriate evaluations, vaccinations, testing, and observation before entering the sanctuary.

By combining thoughtful building design with proven disease-prevention practices, we can create one of the safest possible environments for both temporary and permanent residents.

Looking Ahead...

Every dog deserves safety, comfort, and compassionate care—especially during life's most uncertain moments.

The Canine Care Center represents our commitment to providing a place where dogs can recover, regain strength, and prepare for whatever comes next, whether that's returning home, joining a rescue partner, or beginning a new chapter with a forever family.
