🌿🍓 Every garden has been designed not only to support the sanctuary, but also to enrich the lives of the rescued cats who call Heritage Preserve home.  Many of these gardens will be planted, maintained and expanded with the help of volunteers from our community.  🌻🥕

Growing Food. Restoring Nature. Building Community.

The Gardens & Greenhouse at Heritage Preserve are much more than beautiful landscapes. Together they form a living classroom, a sustainable food source, and a peaceful place where people, animals, and nature thrive side by side.

Every garden bed, fruit tree, flowering border, and native plant has been chosen with a purpose—to nourish our rescued animals, support local wildlife, educate visitors, and demonstrate how conservation and compassion can work hand in hand.

As the gardens continue to grow, they will become one of the most interactive and educational areas of the sanctuary.

What You'll Discover

Community Food Garden

Raised garden beds will produce fresh vegetables, herbs, berries, and seasonal crops used to help feed our rescued animals while also supporting community education programs.

Greenhouse

Our greenhouse allows us to grow plants year-round, start seedlings, propagate native species, and extend the growing season for vegetables, herbs, flowers, and pollinator plants.

Heritage Orchard

Fruit trees planted throughout the garden area will provide seasonal harvests for wildlife, sanctuary residents, and educational demonstrations while adding beauty throughout the preserve.

Pollinator Gardens

Native flowers and flowering shrubs will provide important habitat for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other beneficial pollinators that keep our ecosystem healthy.

Rain Garden

Natural landscaping and rainwater collection areas will help conserve water while creating habitat for frogs, beneficial insects, birds, and native plants.

Outdoor Event Lawn

The gardens surround our community event area, providing a peaceful setting for educational programs, workshops, seasonal celebrations, volunteer events, and fundraising activities.

 🐾 GARDEN HELPERS 🐾

Although the greenhouse and food gardens are protected, many of our rescued cats enjoy watching butterflies, birds, and other wildlife from nearby pathways as the seasons change.

Sustainable by Design

Every part of the garden has been planned with long-term sustainability in mind.

Living Perimeter Fence

Rather than allowing our fences to simply mark property lines, they will become living gardens covered with flowering vines, climbing vegetables, berries, grapes, fruiting plants, and pollinator-friendly flowers that add beauty while creating additional habitat for wildlife.

Composting

Plant materials and natural garden waste will be composted and returned to the soil, reducing waste while enriching future harvests.

Rainwater Conservation

Rainwater collection systems will help irrigate portions of the gardens and reduce unnecessary water use whenever possible.

Wildlife Friendly Landscaping

Native trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses throughout the gardens provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies, beneficial insects, frogs, and other wildlife that naturally belong here.

🌾 Native to Oklahoma

Growing the Landscape Nature Intended

Whenever possible, Heritage Preserve will feature trees, wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and edible plants that are native to Oklahoma. These species have adapted to our climate over thousands of years, making them naturally resilient while providing essential food and habitat for birds, butterflies, bees, and other native wildlife.

By choosing native plants, we reduce the need for excessive watering and chemical treatments while creating a healthier, more sustainable environment for both our rescued animals and the ecosystems that surround them.

Our gardens are designed to demonstrate that beautiful landscapes can also restore wildlife habitat, conserve natural resources, and preserve Oklahoma's rich botanical heritage for future generations.

By planting native today, we help ensure Oklahoma's natural heritage continues to flourish for generations to come.

A Garden That Continues to Grow

A Garden That Continues to Grow

A Garden That Continues to Grow

Like the sanctuary itself, these gardens will never truly be finished.

Each year new trees will mature, flowers will bloom, additional garden beds will be added, and new educational opportunities will grow alongside them.

Visitors who return season after season will experience a landscape that continues to evolve while remaining true to one mission:

Growing food. Restoring nature. Building community.

Supporting the Sanctuary

A Garden That Continues to Grow

A Garden That Continues to Grow

The Gardens & Greenhouse are designed to do more than provide beauty and education—they also help support the long-term future of Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary.

Throughout the growing season, many of the vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, seeds, and handcrafted garden products produced here will be made available through Critters Corner Mercantile. Every purchase directly helps provide food, shelter, and medical care for the rescued animals who call Heritage Preserve home.

By growing much of what we can ourselves and sharing the harvest with our community, we create a sustainable cycle where the gardens help support the sanctuary while inspiring others to grow, conserve, and care for the world around them.
