These two young community kittens were safely and humanely trapped as part of our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. Every kitten trapped before reaching breeding age helps prevent countless future litters from being born into the challenges of life outdoors.

Once safely in our care, they were transported to a veterinary clinic where they received spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a health examination. After recovery, they were given the opportunity to live healthier lives without contributing to the cycle of overpopulation.

At Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary, every trap represents hope, every surgery creates a healthier future, and every kitten given this chance helps build a more compassionate community.

Humane live traps are one of the most important tools used in Trap-Neuter-Return programs. Designed specifically for the safe capture of community cats, these traps do not injure the animal. Instead, they gently close behind the cat once it enters for food, allowing the cat to be transported safely to receive veterinary care.

At Healing Paws Cat Sanctuary, every trap is carefully prepared with newspaper or a soft liner for comfort and is monitored closely to minimize the amount of time a cat spends inside. Once trapped, the carrier is covered with a blanket or towel to help reduce stress and keep the cat calm until transportation.

A humane trap is never intended to frighten or harm a cat—it is simply the first step toward a healthier life and a brighter future.

Boo's journey is a reminder that every community cat has a story worth fighting for. Before being neutered, Boo survived a devastating coyote attack that left him injured and in need of medical care. After receiving treatment and making a remarkable recovery, he was healthy enough to undergo Trap-Neuter-Return.

His TNR surgery, vaccinations, and continued care helped ensure he could return to life healthier, stronger, and no longer contribute to the cycle of overpopulation. Boo's story is one of resilience, compassion, and second chances.

A successful Trap-Neuter-Return day begins long before arriving at the veterinary clinic. Once each community cat has been safely trapped, every trap is carefully secured, covered with a blanket to help reduce stress, and loaded for transportation. Keeping the cats calm and comfortable during the trip is an important part of the process and helps ensure they arrive safely for their appointments.

Behind every TNR clinic day is careful planning, teamwork, and a commitment to giving each cat the best possible care. Every trip to the veterinarian brings another opportunity to improve a cat's health, prevent future litters, and create a healthier community for both cats and people.

After surgery, every community cat is given time to recover in a safe, quiet environment before returning to the outdoor home they know. During this recovery period, cats are carefully monitored to ensure they are awake, alert, comfortable, and healing properly. Fresh food, water, warmth, and a calm atmosphere all play an important role in a successful recovery.

During this time, each trap is placed in a quiet, protected area away from unnecessary noise and activity, helping to reduce stress while ensuring the cats remain safe. Food and water are provided as appropriate, and every cat is carefully monitored until it's time to travel to the veterinary clinic.

The kitties pictured here are spending the night before their TNR appointments. While it may not look glamorous, this temporary setup is the safest and least stressful option for community cats that are unfamiliar with human handling. After surgery and a brief recovery period, they will be returned to the outdoor home they know, healthier and better able to live their lives.

Every successful Trap-Neuter-Return program is made possible by compassionate people willing to lend a helping hand. Volunteers spend countless hours trapping community cats, transporting them to veterinary appointments, monitoring their recovery, and safely returning them to the outdoor homes they know.

Whenever possible, they are positioned on level ground, stabilized to prevent movement, and covered or camouflaged to help them blend into the landscape. A calm, familiar setting helps reduce stress and increases the chances of a safe, successful capture.
